Maple Movement’s mission is to provide an organic and holistic fuelling strategy in a market saturated with additives, preservatives and gut unfriendly products. We believe GI distress doesn’t have to be apart of sport.
OUR STORY
Maple Movement was founded in 2024 by Daniel McDonnell, a firefighter turned professional triathlete, and Ella Appleby, a competitive runner specialising in both short and endurance distances. Driven by their shared passion for health and nutrition, they created Maple Movement to align long-term health with elite-level performance
BORN OUT OF NECESSITY
In 2023, Dan suffered from a water-borne virus that damaged his stomach lining, making him highly sensitive to processed foods. Unable to tolerate conventional sports nutrition products full of refined sugars and additives, Dan struggled to find a suitable fuelling option for races.
After experimenting, Dan discovered that maple syrup, being unrefined and water-soluble with a natural macronutrient profile, was easy on his stomach. This clean carbohydrate source enabled him to complete the 2023 70.3 Ironman season without digestive issues.
Following this success, Dan and Ella launched Maple Movement in 2024 to offer fellow athletes a natural and effective endurance fuelling solution.

Our supplier, Jack, originally from the USA and now based in Melbourne, Victoria, shares our commitment to sustainability and natural health. He imports premium organic maple syrup directly from his family's 20,000-tree diverse forest ecosystem in Vermont, USA. Unlike monoculture plantations, this native forest is a thriving, resilient ecosystem, which contributes to the productivity and quality of the sugar bush. Jack’s values align closely with ours, as demonstrated by his generosity—donating 25% of all profits to the preservation of the Daintree Rainforest, where the Maple Movement team is proudly based.
